Bob's Story
For over a week, I had been thinking about what I was going to say... how I was going to ask... when I was going to ask... would she even want to get to know me?!? After much thinking and stress, I had prayed for peace in this matter, that God would simply reveal His will because I wanted to please Him. With that peace came the subtle thought that Leslie would in fact say yes because... even at this point... I was thinking this is who God had set aside to be my wife someday. I wasn't exactly thinking that when she said she was "interested" in courtship. I thought this meant no, and that we would remain friends for the time being. However, I was clearly proven wrong as a couple of days later I found my heart pounding at an accelerated rate as she clarified her desires and we began pursuing a relationship together with Christ as our guide.
Leslie's Story
Before this day, Bob and I had spent time together on only three other occasions. Then, Bob had planned to go home (Traverse City) for the three week break between semesters at EMU and this was our first time together again after the break that felt much longer than it really was.
The evening started at our cars before the movie when Bob gave me a Christmas gift (a mug from a surf shop in TC) wrapped in graphing paper with a duct tape ribbon/bow and some scripture written on the top and I gave him a CD I made for him. We watched a great movie that opened with an incredible short called "Paperman". When we returned home, we got to talking, and Bob had brought up the big question of the night: if I was interested in courtship. I didn't even know what that was or what it meant, so Bob explained and I told him that I was "interested". "Interested" in my mind meant that I needed a little time to think and pray about it before saying yes. "Interested" in Bob's mind meant no! We've improved our communication skills since then. :) Two days later we met again for lunch after church and I clarified that my "interested" meant yes.
